Console exclusives have typically been a very polarizing subject, especially when it comes to third parties keeping a game or series only on one hardware manufacturer’s system, or in this case systems.
Fans have been speculating whether or not Yakuza 0 and Persona 5 would be getting non-PlayStation ports, and it seems like the rumor mill has gotten too hot lately as Sega / Atlus PR has stepped in to squash them.
Atlus USA PR manager John Hardin flatly pointed out that Yakuza 0 will only release for PlayStation 4, while Persona 5 will only release for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. This comes after fans questioned the “PS4 CONSOLE EXCLUSIVE” label on Yakuza 0’s box art, while Persona 5’s box art was missing this label.
For reference, sometimes games have been touted as “PS4 CONSOLE EXCLUSIVE” while also getting a PC release. When pressed further by a fan making a joke, Hardin also said: “I get it, people want to hold out hope that it comes to their platform of choice. But…it’s just a box label.”
To be clear, the box label having “PLAYSTATION 4 EXCLUSIVE” or “PS4 CONSOLE EXCLUSIVE” are entirely up to Sony, and not Sega or Atlus, as Hardin also pointed out in his responses.
Yakuza 0 is launching in North America and Europe for PS4 on January 24th, while Persona 5 is launching on April 4th for both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
