Sega have launched a 24-hour live stream of music and remixes from the Sonic the Hedgehog games, to encourage fans to stay at home during the coronavirus pandemic.

The announcement came via the Japanese Sonic the Hedgehog 20th Anniversary Twitter account. For the next 24 hours, the account will stream music and remixes from Sonic the Hedgehog games. This is in effort to encourage people to “stay home & stay safe” as part of the coronavirus pandemic quarantines in numerous countries across the world.

You can find the livestream below.

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic (also known as COVID-19 officially, or Chinese Flu to others) has affected many worldwide, from businesses to public gatherings and events. [1234567].

This includes the postponement of GDC, and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, along with the cancellation of E3 2020 (including digital events), the physical event for Gamescom 2020, and Comiket 98. We also recently reported on Death Stranding’s PC release being delayed, and the Pokemon anime’s broadcast.

The Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering are mapping the virus’ spread [12]. As of this time of writing, there have been over 2.628 million total confirmed cases worldwide, and over 1.738 million active cases. There have been almost 183,000 deaths, however over 707,000 people have made a “total recovery.”

The stream has not been promoted on the official US Twitter accounts for Sega or Sonic the Hedgehog. This is surprising, considering Sega had begun promoting the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog games by sharing samples of their soundtracks on the US YouTube account.

These include Sonic Forces, Sonic Mania, Team Sonic Racing [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6], remixes and covers not featured in any games (along with songs from older games) [1, 2, 3, 4], and music that appeared in cartoon Sonic Mania Adventures [1, 2]. After a vote with fans, they also released a 10-hour loop of Pumpkin Hill, complete with hidden messages from developers.
