Sega Announces Sega Forever, a Free Collection of Classic Games for Mobile

Sega has announced announced Sega Forever, a new collection of their classic  games “from every console era” for mobile devices.

The ongoing release of classic games are playable entirely free, and the first set is coming on June 22nd. Featured above, you can view the announcement trailer for the new collection – it’s pretty nostalgia inducing.

Each game will have in-game advertising, playable offline mode, and new features like cloud saves, controller support, and even leaderboards. If you really want to get rid of the advertisements, you can pony up for $1.99 per game to remove them.

The launch roster of games include five Mega Drive / Genesis titles, they include:

  • Sonic The Hedgehog, the 1991 household classic that has remained at the forefront of hearts and minds since inception
  • Phantasy Star II, the longtime fan-favourite RPG from 1989
  • Comix Zone and Kid Chameleon, two American titles developed by SEGA’s in-house studio STI
  • Altered Beast, the original Genesis pack-in title, a beat-em-up set in Ancient Greece that represents a weird and wonderful segment of the SEGA catalogue that is ripe for rediscovery

As the Sega Forever lineup grows “through months and years,” it will offer both officially emulated games and even ports of Sega games across all the console eras, with some being adapted to mobile while remaining true to the original games.
