Sea of Thieves has just begun their sixth season of content, along with it is a brand new plunder pass with dozens of new cosmetics to unlock. But the biggest addition with season 6 is the brand new Sea Fort encounters!
Sea Forts are a new “on-demand” encounter similar to the Siren Shrines introduced in season four. This means unlike World Events, these can be started at any time provided a crew hasn’t cleared them recently and are still lingering about. Like Siren Shrines, Sea Forts will reset themselves after only a few minutes once any nearby crews have given the island some distance.
So how do we navigate these new forts? There’s six new forts in the game, two for each of the three major regions in Sea of Thieves: The Shores of Plenty, The Wilds, and The Ancient Isles. Below you can find a map gallery showing the forts and surrounding area, as well as their map coordinates.
The Sea Fort encounter features waves of Phantoms, ghostly enemies that have a chance of dropping small sacks of gold. Pirates assaulting these forts will fight off waves of these enemies before a Phantom Captain spawns. Upon defeat, this Captain will drop a Fortress Treasury Key! The Treasury Key will be used to open the forts treasury containing a lion’s share of the loot!
But you’re not done yet! Rare has included dozens of interactable objects within the Sea Fort to give it a “lived in” sort of feel. This means there’s cabinets, drawers, and wardrobes to rummage through which can contain little odds and ends of treasure.
This might sound like too much work for the reward at first, but keep searching! Eventually you should find a Fortress Store Room Key! The store room is another cache of treasure in a room near the top of the Sea Fort and contains a similar amount of loot as the treasury! So why not double up your haul?
Sea of Thieves is available for Windows PC (via the Microsoft Store, and Steam), Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. If you missed it, you can find our review here (we can’t recommend it enough!!)
