Sea of Thieves Mystery: The Hoarder’s Hunt begins May 11

Sea of Thieves Mystery The Hoarder's Hunt

Sea of Thieves has announced their second Mystery event “The Hoarder’s Hunt”.

Mysteries are a new type of event in Sea of Thieves where players use clues found both in-game and on social media to get to the bottom of a mystery. The first Mystery “Who Killed DeMarco?” follows the death of DeMarco Singh, The Pirate Lord’s son who was killed en route to meet with The Siren Queen.

Through a series of puzzles drip-fed to the community via social media, players were ultimately directed to perform a ritual by playing a specific shanty, at a specific location, at multiple islands across the Sea of Thieves.

The result was a secret location in-game and a short cinematic featuring The Pirate Lord and his family.

This new Mystery, “The Hoarder’s Hunt” appears to be referencing Rathbone the Gold Hoarder. Rathbone was a feared pirate captain who succumbed to a golden curse, pirates face off against him in The Shores of Gold Tall Tale series.

In the current story, after Rathbone’s defeat he re-emerged as part of The Dark Brethren Court. His skull has been stolen and affixed to a Trident of Dark Tides, allowing The Warsmith unfettered access between The Sea of the Damned and the Sea of Thieves.

You can check out the teaser trailer for the new Mystery below.

Sea of Thieves is available for Windows PC (via the Microsoft Store and Steam), Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. If you missed it, you can find our review here (we can’t recommend it enough!!)
