Sea of Stars developer removing “The Completionist” from the game

Sea of Stars

Turn-based RPG Sea of Stars developer Sabotage Studio announced they’re removing YouTube creator “The Completionist” from the game following his recent controversy.

Announced via their Discord, the patch will remove the internet “celebrity” from the game, who appeared in the form of “Jirard the Constructionist”. He will be replaced with a different NPC, and the patch will come to Steam first before consoles.

Here’s the full statement from game director Thierry Boulanger:

A small patch will be going live on Steam and be submitted to consoles soon to replace the builder NPC in Mirth.

We arrived at this decision after carefully monitoring events over the past few weeks, and while it is not our place to pass judgment, we do make it a priority to maintain a positive and optimistic space that reflects the spirit of our intentions, be they creative or otherwise.

As always, we appreciate your support and trust you to respect our decision while keeping the tone of the conversation in line with the essence of what makes our games and our community what they are. Thank you.

Users were quick to go and look at the new change as the update rolled out, noting text mentioning Jirard by other NPCs is still in game:

YouTube creator “The Completionist” recently became swept up in controversy after donations collected for nearly a decade for the sake of contributing to various organizations were never sent to where they were meant to go.

Some people are of the opinion that removing him from the game due to “controversy” is the wrong move, much like with JonTron, but others also believed that an internet celebrity had no place in a video game in the first place.

Sea of Stars is available now on PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
