Earth Defense Force 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair is the high definition version of Earth Defense Force 2025, but it’s not just that. The updated game contains alterations to the original game, a new episode, and new weapons and monsters.

D3 Publisher have released a lot of new screenshots that showcase the game, from jetpacks to bug-squashing shooting sprees to the Air Raider Class to the Depth Crawler, and also the extras that come with purchases of the game from specific stores.

GEO gives players a Wing Diver-exclusive “Reflection Laser”, which ricochets off hard surfaces, meaning it can potentially hit multiple enemies; the Joshin store gives buyers the “Sting-shot”, a Ranger-only weapon, which is something like a high-tech shotgun; and purchases of the game from Amazon Japan come with a “Napalm Gun”, which is another Ranger-only weapon.

Buying the game through D3P’s online store earns buyers their choice of either the “Pyuadekoi set”, which has decoys based on the girls of Dream Club (of which two decoys first appeared in Earth Defense Force 2 Portable V2 last year); or the “Gigantes Ita tanks set”, which includes tanks with Dream Club Gogo and Dream Club Zero decals. Earth Defense Force 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair is exclusive to the Playstation 4. It costs 7,538 yen, and is due out in Japan on April 2.
