Scott Pilgrim vs. The World hits Steam with Denuvo, Ubisoft DRM, and broken multiplayer

Scott Pilgrim

Now what is better than a port of a 10-year-old game with Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game on Steam? A port of a 10-year-old game with busted audio, broken multiplayer and two different types of DRM.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game – Complete Edition recently launched for Steam. Despite being re-released in 2021 for PC and consoles, the game was only on the Epic Games Store at the time.

Now that Ubisoft came crawling back to Steam they decided to finally bring the game to the platform, but since we are talking about Ubisoft it of course comes with a few caveats.

The first two problems are both Denuvo and Ubisoft Connect, Steam users are forced to have a Ubisoft Connect account to be able to play the game.

Denuvo is its own beast and has been criticized multiple times for its high CPU usage and reducing the life-span of SSDs. Also, the Steam page originally did not have the Ubisoft Connect DRM warning:

On top of that, the Ubisoft Connect launcher also happens to break controller support for the game, with Steam users having to develop a fix for it.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World also has really low audio for some reason, even at 100% volume the game is still not that audible, which is a shame because the soundtrack by Anamanaguchi is one of the game’s main selling points.

But hey, they say any game can be fun with friends, so at the very least we have online to look forward to, right? Not really, since the online multiplayer is full of bugs, characters disappearing, progress loss, and horrible lag.

Until these issues get fixed, anyone looking for a beat ’em up to play may want to stick to River City Girls or any other similar titles.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game – Complete Edition is also available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows (through Steam and the Epic Games Store).
