Independent Italian developer MixedBag Games have announced the release date for Forma.8, their upcoming sci-fi metroidvania game.
Forma.8 will launch for PlayStation 4 and PS Vita on February 23rd in both North America and Europe.
The game is described as a “huge 2D action adventure full of clever gameplay ideas” all the while being “presented in a striking, visual style.” Featured above, you can view the launch trailer for the metroidvania game.
It’s worth mentioning the game supports cross-buy, meaning you get both versions for the price of one. A physical release is also happening, via the folks at Limited Run Games. Available at a later date, the physical release will be sold exclusively via their website.
Here’s a rundown on the game, via MixedBag:
As the small exploration probe forma.8, you’re stranded alone on the surface of an alien planet. Separated from your companions by accident, you have a life or death mission to accomplish: find and recover a lost, powerful energy source before it’s too late. And not everything is what it seems…
Forma.8 offers all the gameplay hooks of the classic metroidvania formula: a huge world to explore, a unique control system, power ups to collect for unlocking new zones, enemies to fight, puzzles to solve, a cryptic story, and huge bosses. All presented with unique visuals — using a combination of lovely hand drawn vector graphics and 3D characters to bring the world of Forma.8 to life with a targeted silky smooth 60 frames per second.
