Scarlet Nexus Xbox Series X Launch Celebration Gameplay and Interview

Scarlet Nexus

Bandai Namco Entertainment have released gameplay during an interview about their “brainpunk” action-RPG Scarlet Nexus.

As previously reported, the game is set in a distant future where the city of New Himuka is under siege from mutants called the Others. Players control Yuito Sumeragi, a new recruit for the Other Suppression Force, that is tasked with using their powerful psionic abilities to protect humanity.

During the Xbox Launch Celebration livestream (for the launch of the Xbox Series X), producer Keita Iizuka and director Kenji Anabuki were interviewed about the game, while gameplay footage was played. Therein we see the player’s hideout (and interacting with other characters), and gifting items to allies to improve their powers you borrow in combat.

We also see the player borrowing those powers in combat (via the SAS system), along with their own telekenisis to hurl throwing knives and debris and objects at foes. Players can also fill a gauge to enter Drive Mode to increase the characters concentration and power.

Up to two party members can enter the field with the player, which can affect the buffs and debuffs players receive. Powers from these allies include “Hyper Velocity,” invisibility, electricity, and hologram copies. Players can also improve via their Brain Map, unlocking nodes to enhance abilities, or unlock new ones.

The pair also discuss the  game’s artstyle inspirations, the Others that players will fight, and we see a little character customization.

You can find the new gameplay below.

Unleash the Power of the Mind

In a far distant future, a psionic hormone was discovered in the human brain, granting people extra-sensory powersand changing the world as we know it. Just as humanity was entering this new era, deranged mutants known as Others began to descend from the sky with a thirst for human brains. Highly resistant to conventional attack methods, extreme measures needed to be taken to battle the overwhelming threat and preserve humanity. Those with acute extra-sensory abilities, known as psionics, were our chance to fight the onslaught from above. To this day, psionics have been scouted for their talents and recruited to the Other Suppression Force (OSF), humanity’s last line of defense.

Take on the role of Yuito Sumeragi, a new recruit to the OSF aiming to become an elite psionic like the one who saved him as a child. Armed with a talent in psycho-kinesis, explore the futuristic city of New Himuka and uncover the mysteries of a Brain Punk future caught between technology and psychic abilities in SCARLET NEXUS.
