SAMURAI MAIDEN makes fixes to localization after backlash

Previously, we reported that SAMURAI MAIDEN received some backlash and garnered poor reviews as a result of censorship issues and localization changes in dialogue.

It seems that developer Shade and D3 publisher have listened on the latter as the most recent update has addressed some dialogue. Twitter user (@bansama) shared that one of the contentious localization changes was quietly changed in the new update.

The localization change was for when a character refers themselves as “gen Z” rather than a “high school girl” has changed to be more faithful to the original Japanese dialogue:

Unfortunately, the developers were not specific on what else they’ve changed outside of what points in the story they did update. So it’s difficult to find all the changes, until someone goes through the entire game again to see the differences.

This update also made changes to some aspects of gameplay, however some fans of SAMURAI MAIDEN may be disappointed to see that censorship issues previously reported on were not changed with this update.

However, if the developers have listened to fan feedback here with localization changes, it’s possible those changes are coming in the future.

This update is currently only available to those playing on PC. It’s likely that they currently have to go through certification for the console platforms, all of which will be taking vacation time soon, if not already, due to the Christmas holiday.

SAMURAI MAIDEN is available across Windows PC (via Steam), Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
