Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 & Gaming Hub Preview

When it comes to gaming, there are many ways to play. Whether you are a PC or console gamer, the accessories you use can enhance how you play. When playing competitive games, it is best to have a smaller screen with a high refresh rate.

If you are looking for a cinematic experience, a bigger TV with a surround system can make the game feel like a cinematic movie that you are in the driver’s seat of. Last year, Xbox revealed that Xbox Game Pass would soon be accessible on smart devices and would not require a console in order to play; it was revealed that Samsung would be one of the first adopters of the Xbox Game Pass Cloud gaming.

During Summer Game Fest, we had the opportunity to meet with Samsung Gaming to check out the new Odyssey OLED G9 monitor and their 85-Inch QLED UHD Smart TV. The Samsung TV was to showcase the Antstream Arcade and Blacknut apps on Samsung Gaming Hub; these two platforms give gamers access to over 3000 Games with their launch.

For the majority of the preview, we tried out Fortnite on both devices. Tradeshows are the only time that I will play Fortnite and for this meeting, I tried it out on both the Monitor and the TV; in both instances, Fortnite ran smoothly however, the cloud play streaming on the 85-inch TV was more impressive due to its seamless quality and lack of lag.

With the Odyssey OLED G9 monitor, the gameplay was next to flawless, however, the game was running off of a PC. The hardest part to get used to was the big curve display. Despite using two monitors at home, using one big monitor felt more distracting than looking at 2 monitors.

The image was crisp and colorful, with the terrain looking vibrant, but it was a lot to take in. The increased view, however, did help us see out of the sides of our eyes to spot enemies.

The Odyssey OLED G9 currently has an MSRP of $2,199.99 but based on the short time with it, I can’t say I’d rush out to buy one. It’s pretty but for that price, I could easily buy multiple monitors or TVs. Below, we are including details about the Odyssey OLED G9:

Takeaways

If you are in the market for a new monitor or TV, it is worth checking out these three Samsung products. Personally, I would prefer to upgrade my pc rather than get a fancy monitor. Now, we will be keeping an eye on the Odyssey Oled G9 monitor and maybe one day pick something similar up. In all honesty, we would need a longer time with the Odyssey Oled G9 monitor before we can recommend rushing out to pick one up.

If you have the money to afford the $2,199.99 monitor, then you can order it through this Samsung link. “The monitor does feature a Multi-View option allowing users to take full advantage of the large display by enabling gameplay on up to two screens at once. This means that gamers now can enjoy multitasking without the hassle of a multiple-monitor setup.”
