Former The Mary Sue Writer Sam Maggs is Working on Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic Remake

Sam Maggs is Working on Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic Remake

Hot on the heels of its reveal yesterday, we’ve learned (via Bounding Into Comics) that former The Mary Sue writer Sam Maggs is working on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake.

The news that Sam Maggs is working on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake comes via her own post confirming the news. This is the same Sam Maggs who claimed you could be virtually raped in Grand Theft Auto V.

It’s not clear how much influence or control Sam Maggs will have on the remake, however she notes being a writer on other upcoming games like Call of Duty: Vanguard, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, and more.

Star Wars fans typically adore the original two Knights of the Old Republic games, developed by BioWare and Obsidian Entertainment, respectively. However, concerns immediately arose when the remake was announced, due to the modern political climate and how classics tend to be censored or rewritten entirely to avoid what the new staff don’t like.

Maggs has consistently attacked Star Wars fans over the years, denouncing the original Star Wars trilogy and endlessly praising the sequel trilogy, which has typically been received poorly by fans of the classic trilogy. It’s also worth pointing out Maggs has said the original Knights of the Old Republic isn’t her favorite BioWare game, while she now curiously says the opposite.

As for the original content of Knights of the Old Republicit typically included morally grey characters and villains, and even discriminatory, genocidal assassin droids like HK-47. We’ve seen examples of classics being censored like Boba Fett’s “Slave I” ship being renamed to “Firespray.” It remains unclear how much will be toned down and even rewritten entirely in this remake.

We’ve been running a new editorial series exploring this phenomenon of classics and / or remakes being censored or toned down by modern, politically correct standards – you can find an archive of our “Bannable Offenses” series here.

We’ll keep you guys posted.
