Saints Row reboot dev Volition is being reassigned to Gearbox Entertainment

Saints Row

The Saints Row reboot had a pretty bad launch, which we found in our review as well. The game performed bad enough that parent company Embracer Group reassigned its team to another project.

While the game “has performed in line with management expectations” in the quarter it released, Volition will now be a part of Gearbox Entertainment, which Embracer Group also owns.

Further, Embracer admits that the reboot “did not meet the full expectations and left the fanbase partially polarized,” though Volition has been “working hard to improve the player experience.”

“Going forward, Volition will transition to become part of Gearbox which has all the tools, including an experienced management team in the US, to create future success at Volition,” the company said.

They added, “This is the first internal group transfer where we transfer a major studio between operative groups, but it is not necessarily the last.”

Saints Row has been available since August 2022 on Windows PC (via the Epic Games Store), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. In case you missed it, you can find our thorough review on the game here!
