Russian retail chain M.Video has been fined 1 million rubles ($15,666 est.), after a warehouse employee took a copy of Death Stranding home to play early.

Russia Today and Game Rant report Sony issued the fine, after an employee took the game from stock, and played it an undisclosed number of days ahead of its release (prior to November 5th, with the game launching on November 8th on PlayStation 4). He was identified through his PlayStation Network account, with other information eventually leading to his place of work.

The matter was revealed after an corporate email reportedly leaked onto social media. An alleged screenshot of the email (signed by M.Video’s sales development manager Natalya Zavyalova), stating the company had been fined, and the employee had been fired. The email also requested that copies of the game be kept locked in offices, safes, and be kept in taped boxes until release.
