[UPDATE 2]
The uploader of the images has posted a video revealing how the entire “leak” was falsified, and created by means of 3D modeling, and Photoshop. We apologize to our readers for any confusion we caused in reporting on this rumor.
[UPDATE]
Game Informer’s Andy McNamara has corroborated the rumor over on Twitter:
I had heard that the NX wouldn’t have face buttons, so the leaked pictures match what I was told but was unable to confirm.
The original leaker also shared an update, confirming this is indeed the controller for the console, however that it’s from a developer kit, as such it is not a final build.
[ORIGINAL STORY]
Images from a supposed leak of Nintendo’s code-named NX console have been revealed (via Reddit).
Featured above as well as below, the images show off what might be a prototype, if not (hopefully not) the final retail build of the console’s controller.
From the leak:
- Only the upper ‘nubs’ of the sticks move. The bottom part is static (kind of like the circle pad, but it moves along the bottom ‘sphere’.
- The rollers on the top feel and look pretty much identical to a mouse scroll-wheel. Though I do don’t believe this will be the final design.
- Haptic feedback is feels like Apples ‘taptic’ engine. Not like regular rumble.
- 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom
Please consider this a rumor for now – but do not hesitate to sound off in the comments below with your hopes/expectations for Nintendo’s NX console.
Another rumor surrounding Nintendo was recently circulating, in which a source claims the hardware manufacturer is going to halt Wii U production sometime this year. Nintendo quickly squashed that rumor – however we’ll only know for sure later this year.
It’s also worth mentioning this matches an earlier rumor from Destructoid, who obtained images of the same controller, but in white. This matches a patent filed by Nintendo in June of last year.
