Rumor: EA Vancouver Open World Star Wars Game is Cancelled

A new rumor is swirling that Electronic Arts have cancelled yet another Star Wars game.

The new rumor (via Kotaku) points to the publisher cancelling their Vancouver studio developed open world Star Wars game, via three sources familiar with internal dealings in the company.

Originally code-named Ragtag, the game was in development at Visceral Games as a linear action-adventure game with Amy Hennig at the helm. EA then closed Visceral Games and had their Vancouver studio take over the project, rebooting it as an open world game.

Furthermore, Kotaku had other sources follow up after their initial article noting the new game was code-named Orca, and it was cancelled in favor of a smaller-scale Star Wars game that is set for a 2020 release. The cancelled game was reportedly very early in development, and had you playing a scoundrel or bounty hunter as you explored various open world planets.

The report also notes that despite the game being cancelled, the publisher hasn’t laid anyone off as part of the shift to a smaller scale title.

It remains unclear what EA Vancouver is working on next, if the rumor is true. As with any rumors, please take them with a grain of salt.

We’ll keep you guys posted.
