Disney is reportedly considering The Bear actress Ayo Edebiri for a starring role in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

Ayo Edebiri is known for her past work on television drama The Bear as well as having her hand in multiple other projects ranging from What We Do in the Shadows, to the Clone High reboot, to the voice of April O’Neil in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.

Some fans speculate that Edebiri’s role (reportedly named Anne) is meant to replace Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow as the franchise’s leading character, this is in spite of the 2022 court case where a jury ruled that Amber Heard’s claims of “sexual violence” and “domestic abuse” against Depp qualified as defamation.

The Pirates of the Caribbean film starring Margot Robbie is still supposed to be in the works, but that’s meant to be a spin-off film.
