We’ve learned that Bandai Namco is possibly working on “several” new games for Nintendo’s new NX platform.
The news comes from Japan-based video games industry consultant Serkan Toto, who said that one of those games is Super Smash Bros., which is set to be a launch title, according to his sources.
Unfortunately, Toto wasn’t able to confirm if this is an entirely new Super Smash Bros., however considering the NX is rumored to launch sooner rather than later – we’re expecting this to be a port of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
Nintendo is reportedly going to fully unveil their NX platform sometime this year.

January 28, 2016 at 2:57 pmI’m willing to bet NX will be revealed at this years E3.
I’m also willing to bet that the new Zelda will launch on the NX, which is why Nintendo hasn’t been very forthcoming with details.
Smash would also be a strong launch title. Would be even stronger if it came with all the DLC.

January 28, 2016 at 2:59 pmit always starts strong but then goes downhill.

January 28, 2016 at 3:03 pmI’m pretty sure nintendo said they will launch details on this year’s E3.
Can’t source it tho.

January 28, 2016 at 3:09 pmI can totally imagine it being a port of Smash 4U, with all the extra content added in (maybe including the 3DS only stuff) and just taking it from there, continually adding new content and tweaking gameplay mechanics instead of making a whole new game every gen (Especially when Smash 4 has so much content already, and any sequels would have to top that).
So it’d basically be Nintendo’s TF2 or DoTA, for instance.

January 28, 2016 at 3:11 pmWell, they said Bayonetta was going to be the last of the DLC.

January 28, 2016 at 3:51 pmI can’t even imagine the backlash if the new Zelda is for the NX. As if there weren’t enough nails in the Wii U’s coffin already…

January 28, 2016 at 3:53 pmCan’t wait to buy all these games second-hand for my second-hand Nintendo Xensor-ship. Just look at my ship fly…

January 28, 2016 at 4:13 pmWasn’t the WiiU Smash the last one Sakurai worked on? Now that he’s left, they are gonna start milking them out aren’t they?

January 28, 2016 at 4:38 pmAnd weirdly enjoying it…

January 28, 2016 at 4:40 pmI’d be cool with that.

January 28, 2016 at 4:45 pmWe all know the NX is coming out in 2016.

January 28, 2016 at 5:37 pmIt would probably be a deal like with Twilight Princess.

January 28, 2016 at 6:30 pmIf it has all of the DLC or transfers purchases with ease (next to no cost at worst), I’ll have it day one.
If they plan to extend the DLC, potentially including Wonder Red… I’ll buy harder?
Yeah, definitely concerned about whether this means no backwards compatibility since ports for new systems make sense when there is a low chance of getting the alternative for cheap.

January 28, 2016 at 6:31 pmThe lifespan of the Wii U is bound to shift the schedule of game releases and if the NX lasts, we won’t see another game for another generation probably.
British_Otaku
January 28, 2016 at 6:34 pmFor the Wii U and 3DS versions (in the name of both titles) of the game. We’ve seen publishers not just Nintendo say one thing and contridict it, so this seems safe.
It isn’t like they said they would never port or update the game for another platform with an extended schedule.

January 28, 2016 at 6:50 pmAs long as I don’t see a presentation of even proof of said title, I don’t believe jack. Especially after the fiasco with the Wii U, where no third party wanted to make a game for it. Why all of a sudden for the NX? Again, I want to see proof, otherwise I call it a hoax.

January 28, 2016 at 7:29 pmThis raises a couple of questions: Will the NX lack BC with Wii U?. The trend so far would indicate it shouldn’t, but then why make a Smash U port for the NX if it’s already compatible with the original disc?.
Sure, a GOTY/Complete edition with all DLC on disc would be great but then why is Bandai making it instead of Ninty themselves?
Hmmm, something doesn’t add up here.

January 28, 2016 at 8:36 pmConsidering Nintendo’s recent streak of censorship, they will need to put Dark Cloud 3 and a Metroid that doesn’t suck before I even consider touching the damn thing. But we’ll see.

January 28, 2016 at 8:47 pmHi
I’m super hyped for this rumor and dearly hope it’s true.
Please be a true prophet and be right.
I had (and still have) doubts on this but the way the rumor is coming, saying it’s Bamco doing it and not Nintendo adds credibility to the possibility of it happening.

January 28, 2016 at 8:52 pmIf this is a port of the WiiU version with some extras it might be the only thing I’d buy an NX for.
There’s definitely room for improvement in the game, a lot.
For starters, better online.
This alone is big, make it easier to find friends up for a game, add a ranked system with MMR and rating, add lobbies with players able to take turns playing 1 vs 1 and spectating it, better in game chat options in the lobby and better connection quality.
Out of the box streaming option, this depends more on the NX capacity but still, I want it.
More competitively viable stages, this would easily be done if they implemented the already existing hazards switch that activates during 8 player mode and made it available to players for pre existing stages, expanding the tournament list easily. This by the way has been publicly denounced by sakurai as a dumb feature, but if Namco is handling this port then there’s nothing stopping them.
The game doesn’t really need new characters and the graphics were already of very high quality given the hardware but any extra bonus would be welcome as well.

January 28, 2016 at 10:04 pmThe 3DS version had some cool maps, I’d love to see them redo them with NX version in mind.
bateruchan
January 28, 2016 at 11:18 pmI HOPE it won’t have BC.
Not for some fanboy reason like “then people have to buy wii u~<33"
but because it means a DIFFERENT FUCKING ARCHITECTURE. the wii was a souped up GCN and the wii u was a souped up wii… meaning it's a GCN with extra fucking noodles and spices, essentially.
this may mean it's x86 architecture, which would be FUCKING GREAT because then it won't be a hassle and a half for companies to make multiplats and extend that to NX.
which is GOOD FOR NINTENDO, GOOD FOR CONSUMERS.
Nintendo has been royally pissing me off as of late, but i don't hate nintendo. i want them to succeed because i grew up with that shit. but unless they make a serious fucking overhaul, including moving away from powerpc, then they WILL fail.
bandai had a hand in working on sm4sh, by the way. so yes, it absolutely makes sense.

January 29, 2016 at 4:34 amNintendo partners with other developers a lot lately.
Look at Hyrule Warriors or Platinum co developed Starfox, there’s other stuff too.
Bamco did help co develop the game in the first place.
So it’d make some sense for them to outsource them the raw workforce to get it done.
Backwards compatibility is not something that matters to me and I could see them opting out of it and trying to implement it with emulation later. It seems the trend.

January 29, 2016 at 5:47 amMan, if this is even true. I can’t be excited about a new Smash anymore. They’re fun to play but it feels too soon.
Why not a new console Metroid? I still ask myself that question every time a new Mario comes out. Do they just have nowhere to take Metroid at this point? Are they scared of another Other M or with messing with the 3D Metroid formula at all?
I feel like you could evolve Metroid past Samus being the main character and still make a good game if Retro were at the helm, but then it might be worth it to make a whole new IP at that point. Though after another Pikmin and several new Mario/Mario Karts, I have a feeling you could make another Metroid game and it would still feel relatively fresh.

January 29, 2016 at 9:41 amThe Wii U is basically a coffin made out of nails. It’s a sad price to claim but it seems like it’ll be the only Nintendo console ever to not get a Legend of Zelda of its own. Even the Wii had one, it was terrible, but it was there.
Nagato
January 29, 2016 at 12:07 pmPretty much; even Nintendo obviously gave up on the device already before it even got to reach its second anniversary.

January 29, 2016 at 7:21 pmThe WiiU has been dead for the last 3 years already, all the content we’ve gotten is from projects that began their life much earlier and were merely running of that traction they had.
But they’ve sneaked it in interviews and stuff that all new content is made for NX.
