We’ve gotten the first look at Koei Tecmo’s newly revealed Romance of the Kingdoms XIII, following its brief confirmation this morning.

You can find all of the new information, as well as screenshots, below:

You can play a military commander. These have been revised for the new game. Their limitations will affect relationships and game expansion (progression). They have also prepared a Great Hero Legend mode. You’ll have fun enjoying the world view of Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

To distinguish it from Nobunaga’s Ambition, the game puts the spotlight on military commanders, via commander episodes and making connections with them as fellow comrades. This is the game system that has been developed for Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIII. The visuals and game systems have also advanced.

You’ll get a sense of the battlefields and the warlords breathing on them. Koei Tecmo has listened to the opinions and requests from players for the game system, and for the human drama part you’ll be able to play as the military commanders [the entire military commander system], in a way that’s not been possible until now.

Also new to Romance of the Kingdoms XIII is the addition of aquatic sieges and warfare, alongside strategies like fire attacks. These will accompany the regular field battles that have been featured in previous games.

The battles you encounter will be dynamic and shown in 3D, on a complete and singular map. Players will be able to view the entire battle from overhead, zooming in and out on the continent of China as they see fit.

Romance of the Kingdoms XIII is coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PC on December 10th in Japan.
