A Romance of the Three Kingdoms action game is coming via Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja, the developers announced this morning via a new anniversary livestream.
The new Romance of the Three Kingdoms action game is being co-developed by Koei Tecmo’s internal Kou Shibusawa team and Team Ninja, another Koei Tecmo subsidiary – news confirmed by Famitsu.
While the former is known for making historical strategy games set within the Romance of the Three Kingdoms era of China, the latter is mostly known for action games like Ninja Gaiden and more recently Nioh.
A previously revealed game for Kou Shibusawa’s 40th anniversary was Nobunaga’s Ambition: Shinsei, which is being likened to a “rebirth” for the long-running franchise. You can read more about that here in our previous report.
Koei Tecmo’s other long-running franchise, also set within the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, is the Omega Force-developed Dynasty Warriors. Its latest incarnation Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires, with its western release is set for sometime in February 2022.
In related news, Nobunaga’s Ambition: Shinsei was recently delayed into 2022, forgoing its originally planned general 2021 release window. The most recent Romance of the Three Kingdoms game from the companies is Romance of The Three Kingdoms XIV: Diplomacy and Strategy Expansion Pack (pictured above), which has been available worldwide since February 2021 across Windows PC (via Steam), PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
