Rod Fergusson joins 2K’s Cloud Chamber, now head of Bioshock franchise

Rod Fergusson

Not long after his departure from Blizzard Entertainment, Rod Fergusson announced his next gig – 2K’s Bioshock-focused studio, Cloud Chamber.

“Would you kindly allow me to share some news?,” Fergusson said. “Some of you guessed it, I’m returning to 2K to lead a series that means a lot to me as the new Head of the BioShock Franchise. I’ll be heading up Cloud Chamber and overseeing development of the next BioShock game, along with franchise extensions like the in-development Netflix movie.

Fergusson also confirmed the rumors suggesting the 2019-launched studio is undergoing restructuring, with an unknown number of staff being laid off and a purported Bioshock remake being canceled.

“While I’m excited to get started in the coming weeks, I recognize the studio restructuring is a difficult time for the team,” he said. “I’m deeply grateful for the work done so far, and I’m committed to building a BioShock game we’ll be proud of and that our players will love.”

Fergusson added, “For now, the firehose of onboarding awaits, and I look forward to sharing more when I can.”

Since its establishment years ago, we haven’t heard anything official regarding the next Bioshock game.

Rod Fergusson originally got his start working for Microsoft, later transitioning to a role on the original Gears of War to help make sure it met schedule.

He then jumped to Irrational Games, the original Bioshock team, to help make sure Bioshock: Infinite also met schedule. So, this is actually the second time Fergusson has joined the Bioshock team to help make sure their next game is finished.
