Psyonix has released the DC Super Heroes downloadable content for Rocket League.
The new content adds two new Batmobiles, the 1989 Batmobile from Tim Burton’s Batman and the Tumbler from Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins to the popular game.
Rocket League has had a long history of special edition vehicles from various media. The latest one to join the game’s ever-growing roster of geek reference cars is the Rocket League Batmobile, the trusted ride of, well, The Batman. Or should we say, the Batmobiles, as Psyonix will include not one, but two Batmobiles in their upcoming DC Superheroes DLC pack. Now you can strike fear in the heart of your enemies.
For Those Out of the Loop
For the still uninitiated, despite the fact that Rocket League is immensely popular, the game puts players behind the wheel of a car. But rather than race in them, players play football instead. That means you and up to two teammates will be going up against other drivers in a football field, passing, “kicking” – or rather, pushing – the ball to the goal, and blocking the opponents’ shots. However, unlike FIFA or any other football game, there is no system that automatically assists players in dribbling and shooting. Instead, everything is done manually. Theseunique mechanics make the game enjoyable and give it a somewhat steep, yet very fair, skill curve.
Justice League on the Field
Returning to the story at hand, Psyonix will include two Batmobiles in the game’slist of Battle-Cars from other visual media franchises. First will be the classic Batmobile, which looks like a bat-themed supercar with a cylindrical jet engine-like supercharger on the front. This version of the Batmobile served as the trusty car of the 1989 Batman movie, which was directed by Tim Burton and starred Michael Keaton as the caped crusader, and Jack Nicholson as The Joker. The other is the Tumbler, also simply known as “The Bat.”This tank-like incarnation first appeared in Batman Begins, the first movie in director Christopher Nolan’s gritty and “realistic” trilogy about DC’s top detective, which starred Christian Bale as the eponymous bat-inspired lead.
The new and official DC Super Heroes DLC Pack, will be released on March 5. In addition to the Dark Knight’s rides, the DLC will have a total of 21 superhero-themed items. Other than the Batman, the items included in the pack are inspired by the following DC superheroes: Aquaman, Cyborg, The Flash, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Superman, and Wonder Woman. All of the mentioned heroes will have a Player Banner, and each hero will have a different kind of decal. Only Wonder Woman and The Flash, however, will also have wheels inspired by them. And among all the heroes, only The Flash gets a special Speed Force Boost if the player manages to get the ball fast. It’s not fair, but hey, he’s among the more iconic speed-based DC heroes.
Not the First Two
Neither of the two Batmobiles will be the first Batmobile in Rocket League, though. The first one was the version used by Ben Affleck’s Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which is included in the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice DLC Pack. The DLC, aside from the Batmobile, includes antennas with the logos of Wonder Woman, Superman, and Batman; Wheels and Trail for the Batmobile; and the Batman Goal Explosion, which looks like Batman’s bat signal in the DC cinematic universe. Sorry, DC Superheroes DLC pack, you’re not the first.
Nevertheless, the DLC announcement is definitely good news for DC fans who would like to bring their favorite comic book mythos to their favorite car football game. And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, the DLC Pack will only cost $5 – that’sa lot ofcontent for a very small amount. In fact, not to disparage the other cars, but $5 for the price of two superhero cars worth hundreds of thousands – if not millions – of bucks is a pretty sweet bargain.
