Robin Hood film removes anti-establishment intro message [UPDATE: FIXED]

[UPDATE 5/7/25] After reports of the Amazon Prime Video digital version of Ridley Scott’s 2010 Robin Hood film having its intro text curiously censored or removed, we’ve learned Amazon has quietly restored the text in the American release.

It remains unclear why the text was removed in the first place – user speculation was that the digital version uploaded to Amazon’s USA branch had no text at all and was a boilerplate edit to add regional text for other countries. Coming from this, it’s possible this wasn’t censorship at all and a mere mistake.

Regardless – Niche Gamer can confirm the introduction text from the original release is now present in the Prime Video release in the Americas. It’s also worth noting this was apparently an oversight discovered years ago – only to now be corrected.

[ORIGINAL STORY] A newly discovered case of censorship has struck the Ridley Scott-directed Robin Hood film from over a decade ago, on streaming platform Amazon Prime.

The intro to the film has quietly had its anti-establishment message removed from the Amazon Prime platform, hilariously leaving the pages blank with no exposition before the film begins.

“In times of tyranny and injustice when law oppresses the people, the outlaw takes his place in history,” the original description reads. “England at the turn of the 12th century was such a time.”

Here’s a comparison of the original intro text and the new censored version on Amazon’s platform:

Originally released back in 2010 in theaters and directed by Ridley Scott under his Scott Free Productions, the 2010 adaptation of the legend of Robin Hood starred Russell Crowe as the titular rogue and hero. It reportedly had a $155-237 million budget and earned over $321 at the box office.
