Risen 3: New Screenshots and Faction Details

As Risen 3’s anticipated August 12th release creeps closer, news about the game’s setting and story details have slowly trickled out. Though we were told that there will be three fully defined factions (We haven’t had more than two in a Piranha Bytes game since 2003’s Gothic 2), we had no real concrete details on who they were and what their purposes are. This changes now that publisher Deep Silver has let loose a press release concerning one of the game’s available guilds, the “Demon Hunters”:

Forsaken by the gods, the perilous world of Risen 3 stands on the brink of ruin, its peoples threatened by a mysterious menace from the darkness. But dark knights are regrouping, driven by ancient convictions and equipped with the best weapons and armor mankind has to offer: the Demon Hunters. At one time a dedicated and privileged cult, this reclusive sect has all but sunk into oblivion over the course of centuries.

Everyday, the decay of their citadel reminds the Demon Hunters of their negligence over the past decades. Eager for battle, now they face the dark menace, ready to revive the past and fight back the shadows with their mighty axes, hammers and swords. The time has come for them to restore the Bay of Iron and the massive citadel to their former glory and strike fear into the hearts of their enemies.

Accompanying this little snippet of news (which probably only excites Gothic/Risen diehards like myself), is a slew of new in-game screenshots that show off some of the new (and old) enemy types that Risen 3 will introduce. These screenshots are really new this time, unlike many websites that keep posting the same four screens and passing them off as new when they aren’t.
