Rise of Humanity Kickstarter Campaign Cancelled Due To GDC 2020 Postponement

Rise of Humanity

Cybernetic Walrus have announced that they will be cancelling their plans for Rise of Humanity‘s Kickstarter campaign.

The campaign was originally intended to start after the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2020. This year’s GDC was scheduled to run from March 16th through the 20th, but was postponed after numerous developers pulled out due to concerns about the coronavirus.

While the organizers of GDC hope to reschedule the event this summer, all of the press meetings that Cybernetic Walrus had previously scheduled to showcase Rise of Humanity have been cancelled. Without the press coverage from GDC, the developers feel that the Kickstarter would not get enough attention for the campaign to succeed.

Instead, Cybernetic Walrus will redirect all of their efforts to getting the game ready for an Early Access launch later in 2020.

Rise of Humanity is a deckbuilding tactical roguelite set in a post-apocalyptical world where a rogue AI nearly wiped out the human race. Players will assemble a band of survivors, each of which have a customizable deck of cards representing weapons and abilities, as they take the fight to their robot overlords.

You can find a rundown of the game (via Steam) below:

Rise of Humanity is a strategic roguelike deckbuilding game.

The Hivemind project resulted in the most powerful AI created by mankind. At the time we didn’t know better than letting it control all of our automated work force. A disaster waiting to happen as the AI went rogue.

In Rise of Humanity you take control of a band of odd heroes who so far have survived the onslaught that started 50 years ago. They have discovered that the robots the AI uses to do its bidding are getting weaker and this is the time to strike back.

Each hero (and enemy) is controlled by a deck of cards. This deck gives your characters actions during a mission. Each mission is played out on a hexagonal grid in a strategic turn-based manner. Missions are procedurally built so no mission is ever the same.

Destroying enemies and finishing missions gives you access to new cards for your heroes. You build their deck as you play the game! However if they die, they will lose their progress so every decision counts!

Will you be the one to save humanity and let it rise again from the ashes of this onslaught?

Oh and did we mention we have exploding bunnies in the game?

Rise of Humanity is set to release Spring 2021 for Windows PC via Steam.
