Riot Games removing bait ping from League of Legends due to “unacceptable” usage

League of Legends bait ping

Originally intended to warn allies of an enemy ambush, the ping bait was gravely misused by the League of Legends community.

In a recent X post, League of Legends‘ product lead Chris Roberts has announced upcoming changes to the ping system.

Pinging allies will now only be visible to the player issuing the ping, as the system ended up being used to harass players for not using their ultimate skills or for dying too often.

The bait ping, shaped like a fishing hook, will be replaced in the future for something else. Roberts did not clarify if the excessive usage of the ping was the reason, or the fact that some of the community perceived it as a rope.

League of Legends is available on Microsoft Windows (through Riot Games).
