Riot Games has finally confirmed one of the worst-kept secrets in recent years – they’re working on a new fighting game.
The new game is being developed by Radiant Entertainment (who Riot acquired back in 2016), the folks behind the cancelled fighting game Rising Thunder (pictured) and the crowdfunded city-builder Stonehearth – news confirmed by Riot president and CEO Tom Cannon at this year’s Evo.
“Back in 2016, when we joined forces with Riot, I said that we were going to go in the hole for a while,” Cannon said in the Jump Off live stream. “And I want to be able to let people in on maybe like the worst kept secret in the universe. Which is, I can confirm that we are working on a fighting game for Riot.”
Cannon added, “The reason why we did Rising Thunder in the first place was because we felt like fighting games just deserved to be enjoyed by way more people. As big as things are, we think it has the potential to get bigger.”
Riot Games confirmed the news in a statement to IGN:
“We have experienced the profound impact this genre can have on players and want to bring the fighting game experience to more people,” a Riot Games representative said. “We’re working hard to create a game truly worthy of the vibrant fighting game community and are making progress, but still have a long way to go before we’re ready to share more details.”
We’ll keep you guys posted.
