Following the results of the auction to sell off the now shuttered 38 Studios’ assets, it seems the governor of Rhode Island has some pretty harsh words for some of the assets that failed to sell.
One such property, Project Copernicus, was a very ambitious MMORPG in development by 38 Studios. Apparently, it doesn’t hold that much value to Lincoln Chafee, governor of Rhode Island. He called the project “a lot of junk” when talking on public affairs show WJAR-TV for an interview.
This is a very differing opinion to the founder of 38 Studios, Curt Schilling, who tweeted in response to the governor, that Chafee “has no clue what he’s talking about, never did, ask John Smedley or anyone that saw it, in the industry.”
Despite Rhode Island officials valuing 38 Studios’ assets at “tens of millions” of dollars in June of last year, the auction only managed to raise roughly $320,000 in gross proceeds.
