The Wacom One 13 Touch is one of the finest drawing tablets I ever had the pleasure to work with. Having used various tablets from manufacturers such as Xp-pen and GAOMON, Wacom has consistently managed to blow expectations right out of the water with its state-of-the-art approach to digital art mediums.
Wacom One 13 Touch
Manufacturer: Wacom
Price: $599.99
While I have been actively using my iPad Pro 2 and iPencil 2nd gen for the last 5 years or so drawing, nothing has managed to compete with its convenience and easy-to-use iOS. When combined with the drawing application Procreate costing only $13, the competition to find a superior digital drawing tablet was a difficult endeavor to justify. How well does the Wacom One 13 Touch compete? Find out about my experience below!
The Wacom One 13 Touch introduces a screen that allows the user to interact with the screen without only the pen being the restriction. This was an absolute joy to explore as I could pinch and drag my drawing canvas with my fingers, whereas tablets I’ve used in the past required me to resort to keyboard bindings and my mouse wheel to move and pan around the art I was working on.
While many drawing tablets do contain this feature, the price tag on the Wacom One 13 Touch is one of the more affordable products to have hand screen capabilities. My recent tablet I used from GAOMON cost way more and did not include this feature which is a magnificent boon in Wacom’s favor.
Excellence with the Wacom One 13 Touch continues with another very important feature desired by any digital artist. The feel of the screen when it’s time to draw and create strokes in an artwork. The feel is very smooth and responsive.
I experienced virtually no delay or polling issues when the pen would surgically and accurately press on the exact spot where I wanted to draw. It felt almost as if I was discovering fire for the first time in my life, seeing a PC tablet produce such fine precision drawing on a screen.
The pen itself, while nothing to write home about is a very comfortable asset to use, however, I would have appreciated there to be some additional buttons for shortcuts such as a bindable button to switch to erasing, transforming, or any other desired editing function the art application in use may have.
The sleekness of the Wacom One 13 Touch also deserves praise as its edges are rounded and feel very comfortable to travel with. However, traveling with the screen may not come often as it is not wireless. One comparison that the iPad does win in.
As far as price ranges go, roughly $600 is the price for the Wacom One 13 Touch, versus the much larger price of the latest iPad Pro models which can range well over $1000, however as mentioned, the critically acclaimed iPad drawing application Procreate only costs 13$, where if you plan to go with a drawing tablet, the best art applications like adobe illustrator may cost around $40 a month just to use it.
One issue may come into play for those with a PC. If your PC is incapable of connecting to a display via a USB-C connection, you will run into an impasse in getting the screen to work. Many artists may still be using older PCs that don’t have this capability or if they built their PC, might only use HDMI or even VGA. This was an issue for me that led me to have to acquire a 3-in-1 capable, which may cost upward of an additional $50.
With very little to concern over, and an endless list to boast about, the Wacom One 13 Touch is by far a sound and perfect drawing tablet to recommend to any digital artist or even those who are interested in pursuing the craft. I am infatuated and in love with this screen, and I hope many others intend on trying it, as it will greatly benefit their digital art career or hobby! However, make sure your PC is equipped with a suitable USB-C 3.1 SuperSpeed port or you might have to also purchase the additional adapter in order to get it to work properly.
