Huge MMORPG fans can finally enjoy the Aerox 9 wireless mouse for all that it is. Featuring a 12-button side panel built specifically for MMOs and MOBAs, this mouse has is all.
The Aerox 9 has 18 total programmable buttons for the ultimate macros setup. Today, I’m happy to report that no matter your intention for this mouse, it can do what you would expect and more.
SteelSeries Aerox 9 Wireless Mouse
Manufacturer: SteelSeries
MSRP: $149.99 USD
Much like other Aerox mice from SteelSeries, the Aerox 9 builds on the foundation laid out by Aerox 3 by keeping the same ultra-lightweight design form factor. While it does remove the other buttons like the Aerox 3 and Aerox 5 have, it replaces them with a 12-button pad taht can be completely customized to your preferences.
The buttons on the side take some pressing initially to get used to and loosen up but they are very sturdy and you can’t mis press unless you force it.
There is no added weight to the mouse even with the segment of buttons on the side panel and I couldn’t be happier. It’s something that uses the same tried and true method of building a lightweight mouse with a specific focus in mind for it’s target audience and, for the Aerox 9, it grabs it.
Using the SteelSeries GG desktop application is the ultimate gateway to customizing it the way you want but it’s not hard at all and the ease of use is good as well.
With the same innards as the previous models of Aerox, it doesn’t bring anything too different to the table. You still have the same lightweight design with the same lighting system and the same customization for buttons.
To be honest, the 12-button side panel doesn’t really justify the price point of $149.99 USD when you can map those same buttons on something a bit lesser like the Razer Naga Trinity which is wired for a lower price ($99.99 USD).
While it’s a great and useful tool for playing games like Final Fantasy XIV and other MOBAs like League of Legends, it also can work for other FPS games to swap weapons for more maneuverability in cases like Counter Strike: Global Offensive.
Not much else is different from other Aerox mice except for the battery life that claims to be 180-hours if you plan to use Bluetooth while results may differ on 2.4G wireless.
Build quality, at least when I’ve gotten them, from SteelSeries has always been extremely good and appreciated. The breathable designs they put into these Aerox mice has always been an interesting choice that has kept my palms sweat free.
Even just simple movement and the precision of the tracking of the mouse, this is still one of the best brands I would recommend to friends and family looking for something that I’ve had positive experiences with.
A constant reminder about SteelSeries mice that I’ve had used in the past is how they fit into what I do and seeing the usefulness for them in the games I play and the work I do.
While this one doesn’t help with what I play regularly or for work that I do on my computer, it does have a clear niche that it plans to take over with it’s impressive weight (or lack thereof) and battery life that seems to be closer to 150 hours, rather than the 180 hours.
Besides the obvious fact that you will charge it once it gets low, among the other features for playing for hours nonstop, the Aerox 9 is still a great mouse for your specific MMO needs for raids easily.
