Apex Legends and Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment is working on a new single player game, the studio announced this week.
The news that Respawn Entertainment is working on a new single player game comes from Respawn creative director Mohammad Alavi, who announced they’re hiring several new staff for the game.
The new staff hirings include:
- Lead Technical Game Designer
- Senior Technical Game Designer
- Senior Combat Designer
- Senior Level Designer
While that’s all we know for now, Alavi’s tweet does note the game is a “brand new single player adventure” from Respawn, but didn’t specify whether or not this is a new IP or somehow related to their Titanfall franchise. Apex Legends is a multiplayer battle royale shooter, but it’s set in the same universe as their mecha-shooter series Titanfall.
The job listings also tease some other small bits regarding the new game like how the “new singleplayer title is a designer’s dream playground with a freedom to innovate made possible by the unique universe it inhabits.”
The company added, “Our critically acclaimed, multi-platform games have always established a “fun comes first” sensibility in a design process that allows creativity and new ideas to shine.”
Respawn Entertainment did announce earlier this year that they’re working on a “brand new IP,” so this could be that entirely new game. Between this, further support for Apex Legends, and a rumored Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order sequel, the studio has quite a lot planned.
The last we heard of Respawn’s ill-fated Titanfall sequel (or Titanfall 3?) was that development on the game was halted as they shuffled their internal teams. Apex Legends has been doing well for the company, with its latest new season of content – Resurgence – launching next week.
