Resident Evil Village Announced for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X

Capcom have announced Resident Evil Village (or “VIIIage” to evoke Resident Evil VIII) for Windows PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.

According to the press release (via Games Press) and the PlayStation Blog, the game will continue to use Capcom’s RE Engine, as seen in Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Resident Evil 2 (2019), Resident Evil 3 (2020), and Devil May Cry 5.

The game is set a few years after the events of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, with Ethan Winters and his wife Mia living a peaceful life far from the nightmare they endured. Only for Chris Redfield to destroy that peace, and hurling them both into new terrors.

Resident Evil Village will be a first-person action title much like 7, with a traumatized Ethan trying to uncover the mysteries and horrors befalling a formerly peaceful snowy village.

“Throughout this terrifying journey, players will fight for every breath as they are hunted by vicious new enemies that have infested the snow-capped locale. Channeling the capabilities of next generation consoles, the detailed realism and relentless feeling of fear will increase with each desperate battle for survival, while moments of calm will leave players wondering what new horrors await.”

The PlayStation Blog also hints at the game’s nature, with a greater focus on combat, exploration, and resource management.

“The return of a first-person perspective will bring a visceral edge to combat, as well. Each encounter is a personal fight for survival against terrifying foes, forcing you to keep a watchful eye on the environment and constantly looking for resources and enemies in unknown territory. With a greater focus on combat and exploration compared to Resident Evil 7, the village itself is just as important a character as any other, a location with a life of its own that will frequently keep you on edge as you discover its secrets.”

It would appear that several of the previously reported rumors of the game are true, including its title and premise.
