It seems like the longstanding debacle between 3D Realms and Gearbox Software (via a lawsuit) might be finally over, if documents posted to NeoGAF are anything to go by.

The lawsuit was initially filed back in February of last year, over the game Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction, which eventually got transformed into the upcoming game, Bombshell. While the original was never officially announced, the images shown with the legal documents are similar to the top-down, action RPG Bombshell.

For those in need of a refresher, the lawsuit came about due to Gearbox acquiring the rights to the Duke IP, while developing Duke Nukem Forever. “Apparently, after selling its Duke Nukem IP rights to Gearbox in 2010, 3DR sought to privately convince others that the sale never happened,” Gearbox said in its original complaint. “The result is the unauthorized development effort that reportedly exists between 3DR and Interceptor.”

According to these documents posted on NeoGAF, the lawsuit was finally settled via a mediator, and upon taking a closer look at the various clauses, may lead to Duke coming home, to 3D Realms. The filing itself says that “the Seller may repurchase the Duke IP at a price equal to the Buy-Back,” which is set within lots of (probably) expensive conditions and such – so this doesn’t necessarily mean it’s happening anytime soon.
