Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs Is Like Disgaea Meets Persona

Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs is seemingly a JRPG in nature, though from a decidedly different part of the world. Hailing from Poland, company Pixelated Milk is creating a strategic combat experience based around a light-hearted, slice-of-life story.

The game revolves around the protagonist, Kay. He has just become a ruler, though his fantasy of lordship is not all it’s cracked up to be. His domain is destroyed, the previous ruler left behind a massive debt, and there is no one left who even acknowledges his claim. Luckily for our hero, he will have many stalwart companions to assist him in his journey.

The combat will be turn-based, with a grid system. You control a party assembled from Kay and 4 out of 12 companion characters. The devs are focusing on quality rather than quantity with skills, each character having a small list of abilities unique to them.

Additionally, there will be 4X elements, such as the ability to build your own village, engage in diplomacy, and send your allies on missions to gain resources and loot. Diplomacy will feature procedurally generated content, as well as New Game+ and ironman modes for maximum replayability.

The Social Links, which appear to be directly comparable to Persona, will each have 5 total stages. On top of developing the characters you interact with in meaningful ways, these stages serve to unlock tangible in-game features.

Whether it be new crafting recipes, new skill modifications, or store discounts, each will give you something special for your trouble. Some links will even contain hidden quests, which will reward you with money and loot when completed. Also, look at that moustache.

Pixelated Milk has decided not to go the Early Access route with Regalia, which they speak about in detail here. The game, if successfully kickstarted, will be aiming for a 2016 release.
