RedOctane Games launched – new rhythm game studio led by genre veterans

RedOctane Games

RedOctane Games, a newly formed game development studio by music rhythm genre veterans, has announced their official forming today.

The new developer is “focused solely on advancing the rhythm game genre combining the past with the future,” while they’re already at work on “a range of innovative rhythm-based experiences,” with their first rhythm-based title, now in production, set to be revealed later in 2025.

Leading the new studio is Simon Ebejer, a games industry leader who was the Production Director on several Guitar Hero titles during his tenute at Neversoft. He later became the Studio Head at Vicarious Visions and VP of Operations at Blizzard Entertainment, where he played a key role in the production and release of Diablo IV.

Though Ebejer had a chunk of his career not making music games, it seems that passion never faded and his new studio reflects that. RedOctane Games includes creators and developers who helped make Guitar Hero and DJ Hero years ago, as well as new and rising talent from the rhythm gaming community.

“Rhythm games are about more than just gameplay they’re about feel, flow, and connection to the music and to each other,” said Simon Ebejer, Head of Studio in a press release. “RedOctane Games is our way of giving back to a genre that means so much to us, while pushing it forward in new and exciting directions.”

RedOctane Games is being built with the rhythm games community from the ground up, with the pledge that players are part of the creative journey from day one.

Lastly, it’s worth mentioning brothers Charles and Kai Huang, the original founders of the Guitar Hero alongside developer Harmonix, have joined a special advisory board for the company to bring their insight and heritage to the studio’s future direction.
