Redfall physical editions will not come with physical discs

While the industry moves towards digital sales, gamers have noticed certain so-called physical launches to be that in name only. The upcoming vampire title, Redfall, is another one of those games as the physical editions will not come with discs.

According to publisher Bethesda’s support page on the games, the physical PC release only comes with a Steam code, while the Xbox version comes with “Xbox Play Anywhere codes” which are usable on the Xbox Series X|S and PC via the Microsoft Xbox App.

There have been other PC games that shipped requiring users to only have a code, though this is not something Xbox owners are accustomed to.

While many physical PC releases are merely just a box with a Steam code, it begs the question as to why someone would buy a standard edition of a game for PC that way. It also calls into question the ability for games preservation of titles like Redfall in the future.

Redfall is launching on May 2nd for Windows PC (via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store) and Xbox Series X|S.
