Red Dead Redemption 2 Earns $725 Million in Opening Weekend, Second Biggest Opening in Entertainment History

Rockstar Games has announced Red Dead Redemption 2 earned over $725 million in its opening weekend.

The new milestone includes worldwide sales and sell-through copies, not shipments, making it the second highest-earning entertainment media launch of all time, after Rockstar Games’ previous opus – Grand Theft Auto V, which earned over $1 billion in sales within its first three days.

The game also broke records on the PlayStation Network for the highest number of pre-orders, and highest number of sales for the first three days it was available. To compare, Avengers: Infinity War made $257 million in its opening weekend – however you should bear in mind that a full-priced game is still $60, while a movie ticket can run from $9-12.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is now available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Expect our thorough review for the game shortly.
