I’ve a huge fan of Pokemon Snap, a classic (yet underrated) spinoff game for the Nintendo 64 that saw you going through the world of Pokemon while taking pictures, unlocking secrets, and trying to catch ’em all … on film.
Sadly, the game hasn’t gotten a modern recreation, but there’s lots of fan art out there that attempts to do this. One such fan who goes by the Deviantart handle of Arvalis, posted their stuff to Deviantart, and it’s pretty spectacular… in the sense that it’ll probably give you nightmares.
OH DEAR GOD.
It can’t be unseen, look at those muscle textures, those demonic, camera flash reflecting eyes. The environment is actually the Cerulean Cave from the Pokemon games, although it’s definitely way creepier here. It actually reminds me of the camera based survival horror game, Outlast.
Arvalis has a lot of other realistic takes on various Pokemon, and they’re all pretty much awesome, and definitely worth checking out. The above image, however, seems to be the only Pokemon Snap inspired piece that he has done so far.
