Rainbow Six Siege gets new 2B skin that is not 2B at all

Rainbow Six Siege recently announced a NieR collaboration event, featuring characters from NieR Replicant and NieR:Automata.

The collaboration trailer for the Brother NieR skin had a teaser at the end which heavily hinted at NieR:Automata‘s 2B being the next skin to release. The time has come and it looks like we were only half right, it really is a NieR:Automata skin, but not the character that we know.

The Rainbow Six Siege skin is called Unit Designation Iana, and the 2B name seems to be nowhere in sight despite the similarities in design, which prompted fans to ask the series creator on Twitter.

I had a costume collaboration with Rainbow Six. I think you can play G2 instead of 2B,” series creator Yoko Taro said on Twitter.

He added: “YoRHa’s Gunner type exists only in the prototype model, and the prototype model is named in the same order as A2, in the order of ‘type name and number’, so if No. 2 has a Gunner type, the model number will be ‘G2’.”

It’s a bit tough to make sense of what Yoko-san teased, but what can be understood is that Iana is cosplaying a G2 model in Rainbow Six Siege.

Something to note is that Marverick is called Replicant Maverick instead, with no signs of the NieR name, meaning that both of these skins are characters in the NieR universe that weren’t seen before, despite looking similar to already established protagonists.

Yoko Taro is known for having a sense of humor, so it can also be theorized that this is G2 instead of 2B because she looks a bit off, namely the face, broader shoulders, and modified outfit. Yoko Taro also jokingly said that a picture of a 2B cosplayer eating KFC was canon, so anything goes at this point.

Rainbow Six Siege is available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S and Microsoft Windows.
