RAID: Shadow Legends adds He-Man and Skeletor from Masters of the Universe

RAID: Shadow Legends

Developer Plarium has announced in collaboration with Universal and Mattel they’re bringing He-Man and Skeletor from Masters of the Universe (MOTU) to RAID: Shadow Legends.

The dark fantasy collection RPG is adding both the iconic 80s hero and villain today, November 25th, through January 8th of next year. Players will be able to join the 14 day Skeletor Chase Event to add the evil and meme-able champion to their collections for free – you have to log in on seven different days to permanently add him to your roster.

Players can also get He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe, via the game’s Elite Champion Pass as a final reward. Players will be able to complete Daily Quests to get exclusive Champion-specific rewards. A basic and free version of the Champion Pass will also be available that gets you a He-Man avatar and other rewards. Both tiers of the Champion Pass will run through January 25th, and December 25th is the last day to enroll.

“We’re thrilled to give our players the opportunity to add He-Man and Skeletor to their roster of Champions,” said Ronen Gross, vice president of business development at Plarium. “The epic rivalry between these characters has captivated fans for generations, and now players can recreate these legendary battles in RAID: Shadow Legends. With our partners at Universal and Mattel, we ensured that He-Man and Skeletor stayed true to their franchise roots, and we can’t wait for players to meet these characters in RAID’s world of eccentric, powerful heroes and villains.”

He added, “We were careful and deliberate in preserving Skeletor and He-Man’s classic look and personality, weaving it into RAID in a way that respects the past while contributing to his ongoing story. Our approach was simple: stay true to the characters and their legacy, and create something fans of all ages can enjoy.”

Here’s a new animation to celebrate the collab that feels almost like an episode from Masters of the Universe:

To celebrate the launch, Plarium has released a short animation featuring the distinctive retro aesthetic reminiscent of the 1980s He-Man and the Masters of the Universe television series. The short follows Skeletor’s quest to find a new apprentice in his ongoing battle to defeat He-Man. After interviewing several unqualified candidates, Skeletor enlists fan-favorite RAID Champion Deathknight to be his henchman due to his strikingly similar appearance (overlooking he is perhaps the most unqualified candidate of them all).

Mattel’s Masters of the Universe was first introduced to the world in 1982 through a line of popular action figures. In 1983, the treasured animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe premiered and became one of the first children’s programs to be syndicated on television. From inception, the Masters of the Universe brand was built upon the message of becoming the best version of oneself and today, the franchise spans a variety of consumer touchpoints across toys, television, digital gaming, and more.

RAID: Shadow Legends has been available since 2019 and has been downloaded over 100 million times, generating over $2 billion in revenue, and is available on Windows PC (via Steam), Mac, iOS (via the both via the App Store), and Android (via Google Play).
