Rage-Quitting Online in Mortal Kombat X Results in a “Quitality” and Exploding Heads

NetherRealm Studios have confirmed (via NeoGAF) a new type of fatality in Mortal Kombat X today, during a livestream for the game, video of which you can watch above.

Pictured above, the new “QUITALITY” happens when your opponent (or you) rage-quit in an online match—causing their head to explode. Is this worth avoiding the humiliation of losing the match?

Although the conditions are not quite clear yet, it seems that you only trigger the Quitality when you manually quit the match.

Mortal Kombat X is hitting the Playstation 4 and Xbox One consoles, as well as PC, on April 14th. The PS3 and 360 versions have been delayed until this summer.

I think it would be more humiliating for the winner than the loser, that name sucks, I’m sure people would prefer the rage quiter to be penalized instead.

Agreed, they get an A for the intention, but the name is a joke and isn’t really putting the quiter to shame in a way it should.

RQs receive essentially zero punishment as the player who pulls the plug isn’t going to see this Quitality. Couple this with the fact that we’re a month away from the game’s launch and NRS STILL won’t comment on MKX’s netcode and you can colour me unimpressed.

In my opinion the person quitting should have it so the next time they go into a match, they’re stuck as a baby.
Have it guaranteed for people who manually quit, and an increasing chance to happen for those who disconnect repeatedly.

You’re talking about a series in which ‘Babality’ was a thing. the awkwardness of a name isn’t a high priority on the list.

Come to think of it, Babality would be a better end for rage quitters.

The issue being that the result isn’t something they’ll see if it’s at the end, since they’ve left. The exploding head and, like we’re suggesting, babality needs to happen immediately when they try to play again.

I don’t see why people want to be so aggressive to rage quitters, it’s not like matches in fighting games are long anyways.

I’d really prefer just to be able to beat up on the quitter as I want, with the OPTION of immediately killing them.

And, as others are saying, there needs to be some punishment system in place for the quitters, otherwise what’s their incentive not to quit when losing?

Rage quiting should have the risk of one hit death status ailment in the next match played based, something more substantial and frustrating.

Well it credits the win to the guy that didn’t quit, I think that ought to make the e-peen long enough.

Well, pulling the plug could damage the cord from prolonged abuse.

First off, with Netherrealms stupid decision to make the netplay region locked depending on where you live it can take very long to get matches (I wait for about 5-10 minutes to get someone in USFIV and that game is /way/ more popular than MK).
Aside from that it’s rude and immature to just deny someone who bested you the win. I think they should penalise it as hard as they possibly can.

Wow this is so realistic. Glad they’re sticking to being realistic for everything and not just using it as a bs excuse to pander to feminists.

    That aside epic idea.

I guess someone getting a quitality will also be losing the match which cuts out the reason most people quit in the first place. If you gonna lose either way you might as well stick around and sandbag or maybe /just/ maybe they’ll finally put on their big boy pants and accept that there’ll always be someone who’s better than they are and take it as a learning experience still trying to fight back. Wishful thinking I know, but it could happen.
    … right?

But you’re not denying them the win, did you see the video? You get credited as a flawless victory. Also I live in a garbage country and I get into matches ultra fast.

That’s why I like this system and I hope that it will prevent people from rage-quitting. In other games it’s like the match never happened. Sure there’s a disconnect percentage in games like 3s, but that’s hardly enough.
That’s great for you, doesn’t change anything about the fact that it doesn’t apply to everyone or that it’s still rude and immature to just run off mid-match.

I’m not against what MKX is doing, in fact completely in favor of this, I just don’t get why you replied to me in the first place.

I wanted to explain the viewpoint of someone who thinks that harsh punishments for rage-quitters are necessary because you said that you don’t understand it.
I’m not trying to convert you or even tell you that you’re wrong (because there’s no wrong with opinions), sorry if it came off that way.

I see, that’s cool, don’t think MKX needs to go any further than this though.

Who cares if the quitter sees the quitality? They won’t see anything. They quit.

Quitality is an interesting concept, but botched execution. The opponent’s head blowing up and that’s it is weak. A ball should roll into the arena, the opponent should grab it, start crying, and then flee offscreen.

The developers pandered to feminists and shrunk breast sizes saying they were making the game more Realistic (overall).
