Tozai Games are bringing acclaimed shmup games R-Type and R-Type 2 in their remastered format – dubbed R-Type Dimensions, to the Playstation 3.

Both games are coming with high definition graphics, totally revamped music, brand new features like local co-op, slow motion play, and even leaderboards, stats, and trophies. Fans of the series will have access to eight levels from the original, as well as the six levels from the second game.

A representative from Tozai Games wrote about the thrilling remastered games over on the Playstation Blog:

“Players are going see, hear, and experience R-Type and R-Type 2 like never before. Both games have been given updated HD graphics, pulsing new audio tracks, and to top it off, players can even switch between new hi-res 2D/3D graphics, or play the classic versions with the push of a button. Tozai is also adding all-new features like Infinite Mode and Level Select that will allow players to learn the levels inside and out so they can shoot for those perfect, 1CC runs.”

R-Type Dimensions is launching on Playstation 3 on May 20th.
