QuakeCon 2022 is digital-only again due to “uncertainty”

QuakeCon 2022 is digital-only again

QuakeCon 2022 is digital-only again, Bethesda Softworks confirmed in a new announcement today.

While QuakeCon 2022 is digital-only again, the digital event will run from August 18th to the 20th.

“Like you, we’re disappointed to not return to Dallas this year,” the statement reads. “An event of this size requires months of planning, and in this case, we had to make decisions when there was still too much uncertainty to commit to successfully executing an in-person QuakeCon.”

They added, “We’re committed to returning with our full in-person festival in 2023, and already looking forward to reconnecting with friends, a massive BYOC packed with your latest custom PC creations, our wild contests, and tons of great new games and hardware for attendees to try out.”

Bethesda is planning a return to in-person events for next year’s QuakeCon, Bethesda’s above statement all-but-confirms the in-person event was cancelled due to ongoing concerns for coronavirus.

In related news, E3 2022 was cancelled entirely – following it being previously planned as a digital-only event – due to the now-forgotten COVID-19 omicron strain.

In comparison, much larger games industry events elsewhere in the world like Gamescom 2022 and Tokyo Game Show 2022 are planning full in-person attendance, with no major COVID-19 restrictions.
