Hot on the heels of Sony overhauling their trophy system for the PlayStation Network, a new feature for trophies has been revealed – the PS5 will automatically record video of the moment you unlock a trophy.
The PlayStation 5’s operating system will take the existing screenshot-upon-unlocking-a-Trophy feature and expand it to record a short video (via Kinda Funny’s Greg Miller) of the moments leading up to you unlocking a trophy.
It remains unclear if this recording of trophies will still be possible in games that block operating system-level recording, usually to avoid spoilers being shared. It’ll be interesting to see how much harddrive space these short videos will take up if you’re a serious trophy hunter.
Sony’s recent overhaul of the PlayStation Trophy system totally revamped the value of individual trophies, going from 1-100 to 1-999. The structure and ranking of the existing trophies you’ve earned were automatically converted, and your trophy level has been scaled to match.
The PlayStation 5 will launch November 12th in the US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea. For the rest of the world, it will launch November 19th. The PlayStation 5 will cost $499.99 USD, while the Digital Edition will cost $399.99 USD.
