Physical copies of Star Wars Racer Revenge are being resold for insane prices after rumors of a new PS5 jailbreak method have gone viral.
The new PS5 jailbreak method reportedly requires a physical copy of a PS4 re-release of the 2002 game, which is now selling for hundreds over its original retail price of $14.99, which Limited Run Games originally sold.
The rumored exploit requires a physical copy of the PS4 release and will use the game’s code to jailbreak the console, and reportedly cannot be patched out as it uses a physical copy of the game. This naturally opens the door for the illegal use of pirated games on the console.
Jailbreaking a game console opens it up to other things outside of piracy as well – it essentially lets users do a multitude of things with the hardware and run essentially whatever software they can get running on its specs.
Regardless, a large focus on jailbreaking has been to open platforms up to piracy, which naturally leads to herculean efforts by companies to patch out and block jailbreaking methods.
Before any enterprising pirates get excited, the original 2019 re-release by Limited Run Games was indeed limited and only a few thousand copies were sold. As such, the game’s price is skyrocketing even though the exploit isn’t totally confirmed.
For those who are just interesting in the game itself, Star Wars Racer Revenge was indeed a podracing game set just after The Phantom Menace and had users race various aliens and even had a mode where eliminated racers didn’t return. It was developed by Rainbow Studios for the PS2.
The new jailbreak comes weeks after a new racing game in the franchise was announced, Star Wars: Galactic Racer. That game is in development for PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store), Xbox Series X|S, and PS5 with a release set for 2026.
