We’ve learned that Sony could be revealing their next-generation of PlayStation hardware sooner than we thought – if a report from the Wall Street Journal is anything to go by.
This is being filed under a rumor for now but Macquarie Capital Securities analyst Damian Thong, the guy who correctly predicted the PS4 Pro and PS4 Slim, is predicting entirely new hardware from Sony.
Thong expects a next-generation PlayStation “by the second half of 2018.” That’s all we have to go on for now.
This report almost lines up with Sony’s typical hardware release schedule – they keep the previous generation running until they introduce and release the next generation six or seven years later.
The PlayStation 4 was first released back in 2013, however analysts point to Nintendo’s recently launched Nintendo Switch and the coming mid-generation Xbox One Project Scorpio release forcing Sony’s hand, so perhaps they’ll put out new hardware a bit sooner than previous generations.
