The oft-ridiculed Playstation Vita, a very capable handheld that doesn’t deserve the scorn it receives online, seems to have begun to shed its underachiever image. Owing to the PS4 debut, the Vita’s sales jumped 68% during the week of the new console’s launch and a still-strong 65% during the week after.
Thanks to the inter-connectivity between the two devices, the Vita is reaping the rewards of the PS4’s astonishing success…and that’s good news for gamers who have invested money into a system that has had a rough road up until this point.
A higher installed base means a more attractive platform for developers looking to make money on the handheld console. If this bump continues, the Vita could be the system Sony wanted the PSP to be. Or at least have a much more robust library that allows it to compete with the 3DS.
