PS4 is Setting the Audio Standard

It was revealed that the PS4 will be getting the new DTS-HD Audio 7.1 decoder.  What makes this such big news is that it is going to be the first device in the world to make use of this decoder.  Here is the word directly from DTS themselves.

“By featuring DTS’ new DTS-HD Master Audio|7.1 technology, PS4 owners will be able to enjoy the same high-definition 7.1 surround sound experience received on Blu-ray from streaming and VOD services,” stated Brian Towne, DTS Executive VP and COO in a press release.

This will allow video streams on the PS4 system to have as close to lossless audio as we have ever gotten in a consumer electronic device.  Of course, this is provided you don’t live out in the middle of nowhere and your bandwidth can handle such a thing.  Here are more details on the technical info behind it.

The DTS-HD Master Audio|7.1 Decoder allows 7.1 audio data delivery at 512 kb per second. Basically, this means that streamed audio content will not have any losses and will have the same quality as those seen in Blu-ray discs. Of course, this is on the premise that the PS4 user will have stable and a high-bandwidth Internet connection.

Looks like it’s time for PS4 owners to upgrade that sound system.
