Loading times on select PlayStation 4 games are reportedly improving after recent updates, seemingly in preparation for the PlayStation 5.
As reported by Video Games Chronicle (VGC), several PlayStation 4 games reportedly have reduced load times after recent updates. These include The Last of Us Remastered, Until Dawn, God of War (2018), God of War 3, and possibly more.
You can find examples of this via third-party videos below.
Right, so it appears these #PS5 B/C updates that #PS4 games are getting are even having a huge effect on load times on the current gen system.
Case in point: #UntilDawn on #PS4 now doesn't load at all. This tech must have been used in #GhostOfTsushima ??

According to VGC, some recent PlayStation 4 updates logged on ORBIS Patches (when looking at the files via a hex editor) make mention of the PlayStation 5. Along with making those games backwards compatible with PlayStation 5, it is speculated these updates are also adding new compression techniques to reduce download times.
It could be possible that in the process of creating the PlayStation 5 architecture, designers and programmers realized they could improve the loading times even on PlayStation 4. The PlayStation 5 boasts fast loading times (and in some cases, non-existent) thanks to the in-built high speed SSD.
Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) had previously stated that “the overwhelming majority of the 4,000+ PS4 titles will be playable” on the upcoming PlayStation 5. You can find the full details on backwards compatibility and how the next-gen upgrade process for games works here.
As a reminder; the PlayStation 5 will launch November 12th in the US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea. For the rest of the world, it will launch November 19th. The PlayStation 5 will cost $499.99 USD, while the Digital Edition will cost $399.99 USD.
